Below please find the schedule for CYJS meetings, training, conferences and special events for 2010. New Volunteer Training Courses

New Volunteer Training consists of three parts. All are held at the Calgary Youth Attendance Centre, 3850 Manchester Rd, SE from 7 PM to 9:30 PM. To register contact: Tammy McCorkell, 403.261.9861, Ext 222; tmccorkell@calgaryyouthjustice.com

Note: This series will be capped at 15 participants.

Advanced Training Opportunity

The next round of Refresher Training will focus on FASD in the Justice System. It is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21st from 7 to 9pm and will be held at the Calgary Youth Attendance Centre, 3850 Manchester Rd. 
 
The eveing will be facilitated by Marilyn Jerowsky, FASD Coordinator the the Solicitor General's Office. This opportunity is available to all volunteers.

Refresher Training Course
 
Ron Toner and Tammy McCorkell will review case management and introduce techniques for motivational interviewing with time set aside for questions and/or concerns. Refresher training is open to anyone interested in finding out what has changed since their New Volunteer Training or just keen on honing their skills. No minimum period of service is required - all volunteers are welcome to participate. Group size will be limited to 15 participants.

Chairs Meetings/Community Resource Meetings

The autumn 2010 Chair's Meeting/Community Resource Meeting will again be held at the Calgary Youth Attendace Centre from 6 to approx. 8:30 PM. A light dinner will be provided for the Chair's portion and refreshments for the Community Resources portion. Please see the December, 2009 Newsletter for additional information.

Annual Provincial Youth Justice Committee Conference 
 
The 10th Annual YJC Conference is being hosted by the Albeta Solicitor General and several Committees from communities just outside of Edmonton. This annual conference focuses on providing opportunities for Youth Justice Committee volunteers from across the province to share experiences, learn from each other and further develop knowledge in working with you and the prevention of crime.

Alberta Health Services Resiliency Workshops

Alberta Health Services is hosting workshops about resiliency. They are free. The workshops are on September 23, 2010. There is limited seating and registration is required. 

  • One is half day professional development opportunity 8:30AM TO 12:00PM.
  • The other is for parents; there is one workshop in the afternoon 1:30PM TO 3:30PM and then the same again that evening 6:30PM TO 8:30PM.
